Mary McCartney (b. 1969) is a British photographer, director, food writer, TV presenter and Global Meat Free Ambassador based in London, England. Working as a photographer for over two decades, McCartney is entirely self-taught, and best known for her portrait photography. She has published five photo books and exhibited in leading institutions such as The National Portrait Gallery, London, and Gagosian, New York. In 2015, she was selected to take the official photograph of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II to mark the occasion of her becoming the longest-reigning British monarch in history. An ongoing fascination for McCartney is capturing the pre and post performance of actors, dancers and musicians which she has explored in a number studies such as Off Pointe and Geisha.

Alongside photography and filmmaking, McCartney is a committed vegetarian and co-founder of Meat Free Monday and an ambassador for Green Monday: both not-for-profit organizations that campaign for sustainable, meat-free living across the globe. She is the author of two vegetarian cookbooks and for over 30 years has been a consultant for Linda McCartney Foods, working with her mother on the conception of the renowned vegetarian food company. McCartney also hosts her own vegetarian cooking show, Mary McCartney Serves It Up!, on Discovery+. In the ongoing art project Feeding Creativity McCartney unites her two passions of cooking and photography by visiting artists in their studios to create meat free meals inspired by their practice and documents their time spent together. This crossover of art and food highlights McCartney’s multifaceted artistry and how her interests outside of photography inform her art practice.
