STRIKING

Comprising a selection of iconic works from Mary McCartneys thirty-year career in an exhibition titled STRIKING. The exhibition is co-curated by Martina Lowe, who has collaborated with McCartney for many years. The show taking place at the Loggia of Galerie Rudolfinum, from 8 October to 2 November 2025.
Portrait as Dialogue
McCartney’s work is grounded in deep understanding, personal connection and the ability to capture the essence of a moment. Whether working in her London studio, on the street, or backstage at a theatre, her images always convey soul. “My portrait style is very personal, real and informal. I think that’s why people trust me. They’re not expecting sensationalism but understanding. I like when someone lets me in,” says McCartney. This sense of trust is reflected in the Prague exhibition, where visitors will see portraits of public figures such as Kate Moss, Salma Hayek, Tracey Emin, and unknown faces carrying powerful emotions.
The exhibition was conceived specifically for the 26th edition of Designblok, whose main theme is Courage – in design, creativity, and thinking. McCartney responded with a selection of photographs celebrating the strength of the female figure, both physical and emotional. “The selection is based on the theme. I focused on strong women and the female form. Some images are more anonymous, while others engage in strong visual dialogue with the viewer” says the artist.
The exhibition blends both well-known and lesser-known works, reflecting personal stories, relationships, atmosphere and aesthetic sensitivity. The viewer becomes a part of these moments, both a silent observer and a participant.
